New Business:
A.      Cary Beylea, pool update
·       One week away from the season opening. The putty around the underwater lights was replaced this year; hopefully, this will cut down on water leaks. The pool has been painted and filled; the boiler will be started today.
·       Pre-season safety training took place last weekend; emergency action training will take place this weekend. The recent tragedy in Mason has served as a reminder for diligence among our guards.
·       Doug Karlberg; Jon Bennett, and Eric Hagner are all back this year. Thirty-eight of the forty lifeguards are returning; average experience level is four years. All lifeguards and attendant staff are residents of Evendale.
·       A third funbrella will be installed on the pool deck by the concession area.
·       Diving lessons will be offered this year. Four people have already enrolled. Participants must have completed first grade and be comfortable swimming from the dive area to the dive-side ladder.
·       This is the last year of SwimSafe’s three year contract. The bid process will begin in October. David expects at least two companies to bid; Michele also wants a review of self-operation.
B.      Chad Winkle is our new swim team head coach.
·       He is completing his first year as Roger Bacon’s head coach. He has been an assistant coach with the Marlins and Sharonville Recreation.
·       Assistant coaches for our swim team include: Angela & Katie Gorsuch; Jen Schell; Elizabeth Shadley; and Greg VanAmerongen.

Old Business:
·       Tri-Health report as noted in the commission packets.
The Nautilus Nitro torso machine should arrive late next week.
New audio boxes are ordered and on their way. (Patrons can listen to the TV or FM radio via the new audio boxes)
Regarding the treadmills comment – can we replace just the shocks or does the whole treadmill need to be replaced? Two treadmills have been worked on recently.

This is the last year of Tri-Health’s three year contract. The bid process will begin in October.

Director’s Report:
·       The playground project is now looking at a completion date of mid-June because of weather delays.
·       The tennis courts have been resurfaced. People love the new color combination of green courts and blue out-of-bounds. A few “birdbath” areas remain, but court improvement has been seen. Pete Tarnowski is our new head tennis instructor. Ashley Hale, Michael Moore, Daniel Regenold, Josh Kramer (sub) will assist.
·       The leisure path pamphlet will be ready for the July 4th festivities.
·       A data sheet, regarding how far in advance shelter house reservations were made, was passed among commission members. In 2007, only 16 of 150 reservations were made exactly 6 months to the day. Thirty reservations were made six months in advance; 26 were made three months ahead; 23 were made less than a month ahead; and 21 were made four months ahead.
·       A synopsis of Fun in the Sun surveys was passed around. Twenty-nine surveys were returned.

Phi Lambda Pi Report: as noted in the commission packets.

Open Discussion:
·       Cultural Arts Center is open for its sampler week of free classes. The biggest impact on the recreation center has been on Lynne with preparations for registrations. Now that the center is open the impact should be minimal.
·       The Erickson project should not impact the recreation department greatly since the project includes its own recreation facilities.
·       The Fine Arts Exhibit was excellent this year. The quality continues to grow. Approximately 400 people attended opening night.
·       The volleyball net is ready to be installed in the grass at the pool. The cornhole sets and ping-pong will return.
·       Soccer season is going well.
·       Adult Co-Ed Kickball will not happen this year.
·       Fundraiser at the Farm is this Sunday, May 18th. It is a family event; everyone is encouraged to attend.

Motion to adjourn made at 8:31am by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Gus Janszen. Motion approved.
